Tiger-Cats Roll, Bombers Blow and the CFL Suuu…… (um) Gets a Rant

I thought a weekend of camping with my family would calm my anger at Friday’s nights Ti-Cats 28-7 win over the Bombers …….. nope.  I’m still hot under the collar.  My team sucks and the CFL sucks almost as much.

Don’t get me wrong in the rant that follows.  The Bombers didn’t deserve to win.  The offense kept stalling and the defense gave up a couple of long drives for TDs.  Ti-Cat QB Kevin Glenn got his hate-on for the Bombers’ organization back and had an almost perfect day.  It didn’t matter that the Bombers actually got their special teams in order.  With the offense and defense playing the way they did, this team wasn’t going to win the game.  Buck Pierce twisted his knee and will be out at least a week and more likely 3 or 4 games.  Steven Jyles came on late in the fourth quarter and drove for a TD and gave the Bombers fans some hope that the season may not be lost without Pierce.

That brings me to the CFL.  With the way the game was officiated combined with the decision on the Kevin Glenn fumble replay, it almost seems that someone made a suggestion that a Hamilton win would be better for the CFL than if the Bombers won.  How the penalty count can favour one team by a 4-1 ratio…… I don’t get that.  Especially when some of the penalties called seemed to be iffy.  And all those iffy calls and related non-calls seemed to favour the Ti-Cats.

And now I’ll comment on the replay decision on Kevin Glenn’s fumble……  The official ruling is that the whistle blew so the play was ruled dead.  However the whistle blew after the ball was already out.  Common sense dictates that the ball can be recovered but not advanced.  Plenty of non-fumbles have been overturned into fumbles since replay came into play despite an on-field ruling of player down.  Glenn’s fumble bounced directly to a Bomber player.  This wasn’t a play were there was a great scramble for the ball with the whistle blowing repeatedly.  C’mon CFL use your common sense and don’t look so bush league.  I can handle my team losing when they suck.  It’s a lot harder to handle the losing when it doesn’t feel that the game was fair.  Oh well, whoever said life or football would be fair.

There’s been very little comment from the Bombers regarding Glenn’s non-fumble.   Good for them.  They are taking a higher road them I am.  However, Coach Paul Lapolice did say that he has a call scheduled for CFL Official Tom Higgins later in the week and Lapolice will reserve comment until after that conversation.

Do I feel better that I’ve ranted and raved?  Maybe a little.  I had a title for this article lined up, but I figured I’d better revise it upon further review.  Next chance for the CFL to screw the Bombers is on Saturday July 24th when the Bombers host the Eskimos.  :)
