Ok, I’m sitting here watching the Astros – Cubs game and ,man, Wrigley field is majestic in the summer. Then as the first few innings go I’m thinking “man, Myers is pitching really well” and then I see him take off from the mound after a ground ball, take it himself and get the out at first. For a pitcher it was a really nice play. So I think to myself “that play sums up what the job description is for an Astros pitcher.
Here is what I think is in the job description.
1. You better be prepared to have your record look something like 8-8 or 10-10. Don’t plan on having a winning record but plan on having about 15 or so no decisions.
2. As I’ve seen from Bret Myers you might as well do as much as you can yourself. Don’t count on anyone helping you.
3. Try to drive in a run or two cause no one else can seem to drive in a run until you’ve already givin up one and that’s how you get so many ND’s.
Right now the Phillies are trying to get Oswalt in exchange for Jason Werth or Raul Ibanez. Werth is the best option, he’s struggling right now but we’ve seen what he can do when he’s on his game. The problem is Oswalt wants his option for 2012 season or he won’t waive his no trade clause so the possibilities of a trade are slim but at some point before the trade deadline the front office needs to really look at this roster.
All in all props to Bret Myers for the season he’s having……… its probably gonna get you in the Yankees rotation later this year.
