Well now that Uncle Lou has sabotaged his ownership group and opened the door for the NHL to block Ilya Kovalchuk’s contract. (great catch and insight by Eric Cooney on that one.) What would you do to fix the contract mess?
One NHL executive has been quoted as saying “In the next CBA the cap hit will be determined by the 5 years in the deal that cost the most” Honestly I think you might have some infighting between the board of governors on that one.
You could also make the cap hit what the dollar amount is for that year. So if it’s $10M one year and $2M the next it would be a $10M and $2M cap hit.
My final thought to throw out there is capping the length of contracts at 7 or 10 years.
What do you think is the solution? Or is the system good as it is?
Have a good one!
