The Mets offense was stifled three straight nights by the worst bullpen in baseball, that of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Snakes’ relievers sure looked dominant in this series, but it probably says more about the feather-light hitting up and down the Mets lineup (with the possible exception of steady performer Angel Pagan).
Schizo as ever, the Amazins go from a promising end of the first half to now finding themselves fielding another round of Jerry-Manuel-losing-his-job stories. Usual stalwarts Reyes, Wright and Beltran have joined Jason Bay in the “Just lost” department.
Bay actually offered up the “Just lost” as an actual quote after his four strikeout golden sombrero last night. Seeing Bay slog through 14 dismal innings of 0-for-6 hitting is enough to prompt Manuel to bench Bay for the series opener with LA tonight. Clearly, one of the bat boys or peanut vendors has at least a chance to put the bat on the ball by mistake; Bay now has serious mental issues and seems to believe he is unable to make contact when he is at the plate now.
This west coast swing could be the death of the Mets 2010 chances. Right now they seem far from home and far from competence.
