Calgary Stampeders fans get ready to defend home soil! The Green Riders are coming to town. As most fans know McMahon Stadium is a second home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and their fans. You can be assured that the stands will be about 50/50 with Stamps and Riders fans.
The (3-0) Saskatchewan Roughriders are rolling, and their offense has been lights out so far this season leading the league in scoring, TD’s, and of course putting up a whopping 507 yards of offense per game. Riders QB Darian Durant has been completing 62% of his passes for 971 yards with 7 TD’s, and only 1 INT. Mix that in with Wes Cates giving the Riders a change of pace from their Canadian Air Force. Cates has 317 yards so far and is averaging staggering 7.7 yards per carry. The Riders can score in bunches and they will be a huge challenge for the Stamps defense to get meaningful pressure on Durant while keeping Cates in check.
The best news for the Stamps is that the Riders defense has been suspect. The Green Riders were fortunate to beat Edmonton last week and they had to come from behind to do so. The Roughriders have given up 89 points this season. So Joffrey Reynolds will need to have a huge game to control the clock and keep the Riders offense on the sidelines, and Henry Burris needs to play a mistake free game and not give the Riders short fields where they will just kill you.
This is the biggest test of the year for the (2-1) Calgary Stampeders, and if they are to win they will need a total team effort. It will also put them in the lead in the West. However if you lose this game to Saskatchewan you will likely create a three team race for 2nd in the West with Edmonton and BC.
Have a good one!
