The padres made a move on Monday to boost the hitting. Wily Mo Pena was signed to a minor league contract to help with depth in the outfield. Not the move most Padre fans jump for joy about, but Wily Mo has been putting up some good numbers in the minors. This is a typical move for the cash strapped Pad’s looking for a diamond in the rough. Wily Mo does have a good skill set with some power from the right side which the Pad’s need but I liked him about five years ago when he was a prospect. His play reminds me of the all so forgetable years with Ruben Rivera. The good news is with Aaron Cunningham and Chris Denorfia playing well Wily Mo is just on the back burner in case of injuries or when the rosters expand. I am still looking for the Padre’s to add an infielder to fill in for injuries and to hopefully add some pop off of the bench. Right now Oscar Salazar is the emergency second basemen with Eckstein out and that is not a good thing. I will be sharing my thoughts on some guys to go after later in the week.
