The Spurs Sign a Few Players

The Spurs’ front office has been busy with signings this week. First, they re-signed Richard Jefferson. Jefferson opted out of his deal that would have paid him $15.2 million next season, but that would have made him a free agent after the season, to try and secure a longer deal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but we know it’s longer than one year. I can guarantee you it’s for way less money than he wanted too.
The Spurs also signed first round pick James Anderson. Again, the terms were not disclosed.
Finally, the Spurs signed summer league superstar (and product of basketball powerhouse Towson Univeristy) Gary Neal. Neal scored 16 points a game in the summer league. He spent two years playing professionally in Europe, leading two different leagues in scoring, after starring at Towson. This signing is personally exciting to me because Neal played his college ball in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), the same conference in which you’ll find the school I attended, James Madison University. Aside from George Mason’s Cinderella run to the Final Four in 2oo6 the CAA is not really known for basketball. Neal is 6-foot-4 and is proven scorer on every level he has played. Hopefully San Antonio has found another previously unknown gem in him.
