Quick Sens update

I wanted to pass along a few things that I am hearing from very good sources on a rather slow summer when it comes to Ottawa Senators news.

Sens GM Bryan Murray is offering Peter Regin a two year deal at $900,000 per season but Regin’s camp is asking for 2.5 million per season.  Yes, crazy money for a player who has one year of solid NHL service under his belt.  I can tell you, this is one arbitration case that could get messy if it goes to arbitration later this week.  I believe that Murray would offer Regin a 4 or 5 year deal at more money but spread out so the cap hit is not as extreme this year.  If Regin wants that kind of money which two great sources are telling me, it would have to be a longer term deal.

Murray is definitely ready to let Chris Campoli go to arbitration.   A one year deal is being talked about by both sides.  Nothing more to add on Campoli.

As for injury updates on Alex Kovalev and Milan Michalek, I can tell you that Michalek’s re-hab is going extremely well.  With regards to Kovalev, the organization and Kovalev’s camp are being very tight lipped on his re-hab. One can only hope he comes back with a strong year after a very sub-par season.   Filip Kuba is the wildcard with regards to all recoveries as it is well known that Murray would love to move Kuba’s contract.   If Kuba’s back holds up in the first 20 games, don’t be suprised if Murray moves him quickly in hopes of getting something solid in return.

I will have Binghamton Senators news for you later this week, from player signings to a very good chance that the Sens move their affilate in the final season of their current five year deal in Bingo that has two years left on it.  Lots of news coming out of other AHL teams that will affect what the Sens do in Bingo with their franchise.   Eugene Melnyk is trying to be quiet on this but he is going to have make a statement soon as other news in the AHL with regards to a few teams comes out.

More to come.   Enjoy the great weather!

Kevin
