Stampeders Offense Wakes Up!

Well if it wasn’t for a couple poor decisions by members of the Stampeders offense this game would not have been as close as the 40-20 score showed. The (3-1) Calgary Stampeders absolutely dominated the (3-1) Saskatchewan Roughriders in front of a sellout crowd of 35,650 at McMahon Stadium, sending a good 10,000+ Roughriders fans home miserable.

Very rarely do you play a game where you can say everything went right. This game the Stamps could say that almost everything went right. Starting with the offense Henry Burris overcame one misread on a route, and one terrible decision leading to two first half interceptions. Smiling Hank came back and tossed three 2nd half TD’s to go with the one touchdown strike he threw in the first quarter. Rombe Bryant led the charge for the Stampeders receiving crew with 7 catches for 116 yards and 2 TD’s. Nik Lewis and P.K. Sam also scored for the Stamps receivers. Henry Burris’ final line was 22/33 for 285 yards 4 TD’s 2INT’s.

The Stampeders ground game showed up en mass Saturday, with Joffrey Reynolds leading the way with 15 carries for 93 yards and a TD. While Reynolds had a solid game it was the Stampeders as a team that rushed for 247 yards. Burris ran the ball three times for 35 yards and backup running back Jon Cornish scampered for 77 yards on 5 carries including 50 yard carry in the second half that broke the backs of the Riders.

The defense did what it needed to do again and has continued to look solid through the first four games of the year. Milton Collins had a big game with 4 tackles forcing a fumble and also picking off a Darian Durant pass. Keon Raymond also had a beauty of a interception along with his 5 tackles on the day. And finally Juwan Simpson was a beast leading the charge on Durant with 6 tackles, a sack, and knocked away a couple of passes.

The challenge for the Calgary Stampeders will be can they carry this momentum into their next game against the (2-2) Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday Jul 31 at McMahon Stadium. Make no mistake the Bombers can put points up on the scoreboard and the Stamps have to be prepared for it, however the Bombers D has yet to really stop anyone so it should be a good game with some fireworks in it!

Have a good one!
