The San Jose Sharks announced today that they have re-signed forward Devin Setoguchi to a 1-year contract worth $1.8 million.
The six-foot 195lbs right winger had 20 goals and 16 assists in 70 regular season games last season. Though his point totals dropped from the 65 he had in the 2008-2009 campaign, Setoguchi finished third on the team in goals during the post-season.
Re-signing the Sharks’ number one pick from 2005 has secured the return of their top six forwards for the upcoming season which were responsible for 398 of the team’s 700 points last season.
Also, defenseman Jason Demers was signed to a 2-year extension Thursday, locking up the 22-year-old through the 2012-2013 season. The puck-moving defenseman will play a more prominent role for the team with the loss of Rob Blake to retirement.
