Seattle Seahawks Football – Third Place Yet Again

Posted By Sergio Paredes On Aug 1 2010 @ 3:25 pm In Seattle Seahawks | No Comments

A tradition will continue in Seattle in 2010. No, it’s not having more rainy days than sunny in the coming months, or Ichiro finishing with another season of 175+ hits. This tradition revolves around the Seahawks and the NFC West.

In 2008, the team finished 4-12 and in third place in the division. 2009, brought a 5-11 record and third place mark in the West. In 2010, drum-roll please, the Seattle Seahawks will go 6-10 overall and finish ahead of the Saint Louis Rams for you guessed it, third place yet again.

This year’s team will be vastly improved, however. With a dynamic young core that includes offensive linemen Chris Spencer, Max Unger and Russell Okung, tight end John Carlson, wide receiver Golden Tate, defensive end Lawrence Jackson, linebackers Aaron Curry and Lofa Tatupu and defensive backs Marcus Trufant and Earl Thomas, Seattle has several important building blocks for future success. How new Head Coach Pete Carroll develops this talent is what will determine how long the rebuilding process will take. With quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on his last legs and no clear cut workhorse at running back, Carroll and Offensive Coordinator Jeremy Bates will truly be tested as to how to light up the scoreboard at beautiful Quest Field.

Carroll has the good fortune of having quite a bit of time to see how this team develops. A poor season may be disappointing, but could prove instrumental in securing a high first round pick in 2011. (Maybe on a certain Pac-10 quarterback who plays in the same city or on a running back from Alabama that people consider to be the next Emmitt Smith.)

Nevertheless citizens of Seattle, third place belongs to you! Just be glad that you are not the Saint Louis Rams and that if your new coach fails, the NCAA won’t be able to find any misdeeds and put you on probation.
