Did or died

Sure felt like a playoff game [1], didn’t it?

The palpable intensity, intense pitching, late inning heroics and … the loss that puts the dagger in your season.

Today was a one-game playoff for the Tigers, a now or “wait ’til next year” moment for a team that’s been clawing for its life for a few weeks now.

With a chance to even a tough series, Brandon Inge back at third, Carlos Guillen on his way back and a sharp Max Scherzer on the mound, you had to think they had a chance today. You knew something was up when Raburn stunned Detroit and Chi Sox fans alike with his improbable three-run blast in the ninth inning.

That was the last little ounce of joy you’ll get this season, ’cause it’s all over. Now you know how Cubs Nation felt like three months ago.

Please, please, please argue with me. Tell me two games under .500 and nine games out in the AL Central can somehow be turned around.

Stranger things have happened in baseball — Armando Galarraga almost throwing a perfect game, for instance. Just doesn’t look like it’s a year for the Tigers.
