The Spurs are after a familiar face for a front office opening.
Former Spurs vice president of basketball operations Dell Demps left to become the GM in New Orleans and many sources are saying the Spurs front office has contacted Danny Ferry to fill the open position.
Apparently Ferry wants to get the bad taste of his last days in Cleveland out his mouth quickly because his name has been mentioned for jobs in Portland, New Jersey, and now San Antonio.
Ferry spent his last three years as a player in the silver and black. He then joined the Spurs front office and spent two years under GM R.C. Buford. He left to take the GM job in Cleveland in 2005.
It isn’t known what role the Spurs are looking to fill exactly. Demps, in addition to his role as VP of operations, was the GM of the Austin Toros, the Spurs’ D-League team. The Spurs may want someone to fill that role or they may rearrange the duties of the front office personnel.
If Ferry does rejoin the Spurs hopefully they don’t give him too much responsibility, because his time in Cleveland was a mess. He inherited Lebron James but somehow couldn’t put together a team good enough to win a title. He thought signing Shaq was a good idea….nuff said.
At least in San Antonio he’ll have Buford to keep him in line. Maybe Buford could teach him something.
