With the summer series counting down and the US Open rapidly approaching, it leaves one wondering if Nadal will finally steal the crown from Roger as the King of Tennis. The US Open seems to be Nadal’s kryptonite as it is the only major he hasn’t won yet, and it now might be Federer’s best since Nadal has taken Wimbledon from him. If it wasn’t for an other worldly performance by Del Potro last year, Fed would have 6 straight US Open titles.
The result of the 2010 US Open will determine a lot about the future of men’s tennis. If Federer is to win the title again, it will be his second major of the year, tying Nadal, and thus proving he is still the king. If Nadal finally wins his first US Open, it will give him his third major of the year, give him the career grand slam, and will mark the transition from the Federer era to the Nadal era. Now, if someone else were to win it, perhaps a Murray, Djokovic or Roddick, it keeps the argument in limbo on who is the best. Personally, I’m not going to count out the greatest player of all time until it is clear that he is washed up. He isn’t done yet, and plays his best tennis under the New York lights. Hopefully, Federer and Nadal can meet in the finals, and have another one of their epic matches to help us all decide this argument.
