The Padres lost the three game series against the brewers over the weekend and the pitching was not very good. The first two games of the series the brewers middle of the order (Braun,Fielder, and Mcghee) really roughed up the Padre pitching. Not a huge deal because the Brewers line-up is very good and they do this to a lot of pitchers. The Padres had plenty of hitting in the series with 18 runs and 24 hits in the three game series. The Padres are used to winning the games that they score five plus runs in. The Padres did win the final game of the series and played very well. Garlands scoreless innings streak ended at 24 and a third innings. The Tejada, Gonzalez, and Ludwick part of the order is looking really strong. The padres are still standing strong with 6 game lead on the Giants 11 on the Rockies and 12 up on the Dodgers. Right now it seems every time the Padres do falter the rest of the division does as well, and the Padres keep separating themselves from the pack. Something that is interesting is down in triple A Portland. Wily Mo Pena is playing for the Beavers and is hitting .315 with five home runs and twenty two RBI in twenty seven games. Not too shabby, and he could be a nice addition to the expanded rosters, with nice power from the right side off the bench. The Padres have a six game home stand coming up against the Diamondbacks and the Phillies. The series against the Phillies will be a true test, coming into San Diego with a possible playoff preview.
