Has The Front Office Changed?
Posted By Shane Hoopfer On Aug 24 2010 @ 11:25 am In Calgary Flames | No Comments
I read a very interesting blog from the fan960′s Rob Kerr. Rob is one of the best connected people in Calgary regarding the Flames, and one of the few people in the hockey world that in when he says something is happening I take it as gospel.
In this blog Rob has laid out how the management hierarchy for the Calgary Flames has changed and it really slipped under the radar. Here is a basic run down of what has happened..
Michel Goulet is the new head scout of the Flames and he will report directly to Assistant GM Jay Feaster.
Jay Feaster is now conducting all trade and contract negotiations for the Flames then submitting deals to Darryl Sutter for final approval.
Darryl Sutter has now added the title Executive VP to his resume.
I believe that this is the first step towards Darryl Sutter moving towards becoming the President of the Calgary Flames at some point down the road.
I also believe that in the next year or two Jay Feaster will end up taking over the official title of General Manager for the Flames.
I honestly don’t know where that would leave Ken King in the organization but I doubt that he would be forced out in any way. Nor should he. It can be a tough job at times, and he has been good for the community.
The biggest question to me out of all of these moves is who exactly called for them? I don’t think Ken King would have done it, since he has been a Darryl Sutter supporter from day one. So it leads me to believe that the Flames’ ownership group pushed for these changes to be made in order to change the direction of the franchise.
If that is the case it really would surprise me since this has always been an ownership group that has hired their people and stayed out of the way. I have always been very thankful to this group as they have always stated that they don’t care if the team makes any money, they just don’t want the team to lose money. Which makes sense if you think of how the value of franchises climb over time.
Does this now mean the former untouchables of this franchise are now open to re-evaluation by Jay Feaster who appears to be handling the day to day ops?
Have a good one!
