Gagner: two years @ $4.55M

Untapped potential = $4.55 M over two years!
That’s what the Edmonton Oilers are banking on, signing Sam Gagner to a two-year contact worth more than $4.5M.
Oilers’ GM Steve Tambellini announced the signing of the 20-year old forward Sunday, thus avoiding arbitration with the London, Ont. native. Gagner potted 41 points (15-26) during the club’s dismal 2009-10 campaign.
Arguably, the club once again dug a little too deep into its pocket to sign the small-sized forward, who is packed with potential, but also continues to with scoring inconsistency. The overpayment, however, is modest ($250K – $500K), and given the youthful skill and speed that now abounds in this lineup, expectations for Gagner should also climb.
Tambellini still has some important off-season work left to accomplish, including trading or signing centre Andrew Cogliano and finding a suitor for disgruntled veteran defenceman, Sheldon Souray.
