Shaq wont be back: Evans Transfers

It’s always fun when something you write in proven moot within 48 hours…..
Take a look at what I wrote on Sunday night….
…The other is Shaquille Evans. A Weis recruit, Evans caught seven balls for 61 yards in his first season. With Tate gone, Evans should be targeted a lot more in his second year. Last season’s sample size was far too small to make any kind of glaring statement about him….
And here’s what happened today…
Notre Dame sophomore receiver Shaquelle Evans has been granted his release by the university and will transfer, coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder from Inglewood, Calif., was not listed on the Fighting Irish two-deep depth chart released Monday evening.
“I can only assume that playing time was a factor,” Kelly said. “This was not a two-way conversation. This was a one-way conversation. … I’m disappointed.” Evans, who Kelly said was “better suited for the slot position for us … but he didn’t see it that way,” played six games last season, catching seven passes for 61 yards (from ESPN.COM)
I relayed this news to my brother at the dinner table and my mother weighed in…
“Why would anyone leave Notre Dame?”
Good question Mom, but as Kelly said in the above passage, it seams that Shaq was not going to get on the field as much as he may have wished.
Looks like T. J Jones, a freshman, will get the majority of the non – Floyd reps with John Goodman and Theo Riddick (yes, the former running back) bringing up the rear. Perhaps Duval Kamara can even get in some situational reps in what should be a pass happy offense.
As a final word on Evans, he is a former ESPNU top 150 recruit and the number 4 high school receiver in the national rankings in 2009. Although I hate the idea of loosing receivers in this offense, I choose to hang my hat on something positive in regards to loosing a piece of Charlie Weis’s final recruiting class.
At least it wasn’t Monti Te’o. That guy’s awesome.
