This losing streak needs to end right now. For how well the Padres have played this year, it is hard to tell after seeing them play over the last two weeks. The starting pitching is not performing well, besides latos. The bullpen is far from perfect and not as effective as earlier in the year. The hits are coming from the offense but the key extra base hit here and there are not coming.
Not only are the Giants only three games behind the Padres now(if they loose tonight). The Rockies are now right back in the race trailing by only 5.5 games in the N.L. West. Luckily the Giants are not playing very well themselves or it would be even tighter for the top spot in the West. The Padres are facing the tough lefty from the Rockies on Sunday in Jorge De La Rosa. Hopefully the Padres bats show up because De La Rosa can be really good when He is on and we don’t want the Rockies to be 4.5 out of first when leaving San Diego. The nice thing is unlike the past the Padres can load up with right handed hitters and equalize some of the lefty’s nasty stuff. The Padres really need a big start out of Clayton Richard tomorrow, He has been throwing pretty well during the losing streak but He can step it up. It would be nice if Richard could go seven plus innings tomorrow after Garland only lasted four and two thirds on Saturday. It is not panic time but it would be nice to keep a three game lead on the division and build from there. The Padres are certainly going through a rough patch and they will have to show us and the rest of baseball what this team is made of the rest of the season. Bud Black was assuredly manager of the year for the N.L., now that might be in jeopardy.
