Gators Fumble Their Way To Victory

The Gators had a less than impressive debut on Saturday but managed to pick up a 34-12 victory over an inspired Miami Ohio. Florida managed to somehow fumble 14 shotgun snaps throughout the game, which killed many unimpressive drives and resulted in 3 turnovers. The offensive output was nothing short of a catastrophe. By the end of the third quarter the Gators had 26 yards of TOTAL offense. That’s simply unheard of in the modern Florida era.
The Gator defense ensured the game would never be in doubt by keep the Redhawks out of then endzone and picking off 3 passes, one of which was returned for a TD by Janoris Jenkins for the first touchdown of the game.
The Gators managed to orchestrate two 4th quarter touchdown drives to pull away in the end and make their offensive stats not as embarrassing, but that will not serve to stop the barrage of questions and criticism of an offense that was dubbed to be more explosive and impressive than last years by fans, media and coaches alike.
Coach Meyer has already said the team needs to work hard and will work hard to fix the inefficiency on offense. The offense will need to improve drastically if it wishes to avoid an upset against the upstart South Florida program that will visit the Swamp next week.
The good news is that the defense played well and the front 4 showed its strenght. Some freshman got involved, S Matt Elam made some key tackles and Trey Burton scored on a 3 yard TD option run. The freshman contributed at several positions as was expected.
Next week a much better team will visit the Gators, who at this point do not look anywhere near the 4th best team in America.
