Post Game: Georgia vs. LA Lafayette

Two questions the Bulldogs had been wondering during off-season were answered Saturday during Georgia’s blowout win vs. Louisiana-Lafayette. First, how well would redsirt freshman QB Aaron Murray play? Murray was 17 for 26 and threw for 160 yards. Not a bad performance for a QB making his debut before a sell-out crowd of 92,746 of mainly Georgia fans. Murray was efficient as he threw for 3 TDs and spread the ball around as he threw to 8 different receivers. All this without preseason All-American WR A.J. Green who was forced to sit out until the NCAA rules on his eligibility.
As for the other question, how effective would be the new 3-4 defensive scheme? Georgia held the Ragin’ Cajuns to 128 total yards and intercepted the Cajuns three times – not bad for a team in the past that at times played up to their competition. The biggest improvements brought over by new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham aggressive defense style were better tackling and no major defense penalites as that has hampered the Bulldogs the past couple of seasons.
Georgia played well on Saturday, but their first real test will be this weekend as they travel to Columbia, SC to face Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks.
