Well, well, well…look who decided he finally wants to play football?
Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis ended his holdout today by inking a new deal. While numbers have not been released as per team policy, the speculation is that the deal is for four years and is worth up to $32 million guaranteed.
The contract does not make Revis the highest paid cornerback in the league, but there’s no beating the guaranteed money. Clearly, this is what he was after all along.
In his quest for the keys to Fort Knox, Revis has completely shredded his personal reputation and will be seen going forward as a selfish paycheck player. His greed has reduced the Jets chances of winning a Super Bowl to probably only this season as next year they likely will not be able to keep this same squad together financially.
One always hopes that the ultimate aim of a pro athlete is to win the championship of whatever sport he participates in. However, it’s unfortunate that there are many like Revis out there who a re merely concerned with their own swollen bank accounts.
Congratulations, Darrelle..you got your huge, ridiculous contract. Now, go out and deliver a performance worthy of such a boon. Understand this, though: You have set yourself up to be forced to perform perfectly every single snap. Otherwise, the Jets fans who you dragged through this ordeal will surely let you hear about it.
