US Open Mid-Report

As we enter the second week of the US Open, the field becomes thinner and we separate the true contenders from the pretenders (see: Roddick, Murray).

On the mens’ side it looks clearly like a classic Nadal-Federer final, although Djokovic and Soderling might have something to say about that. Of course, Federer has to play  Soderling, then Djokovic before meeting Nadal in the finals, while Nadal is going to play nobody who can give him a real scare. Federer has yet to drop a set and is moving around the court as well as he did when he was in his dominant years, so he still continues to be my pick to win it all. If Nadal can somehow win the title, the Federer era will certainly be over. The best is still yet to come from the men and this last week is going to be very exciting.

The woman’s tournament has been equally as exciting as the men, even without Serena and Justine. My girl, aka my favorite player, Caroline Wozniacki has been absolutely demolishing the competition, barely losing any games, and disposing Sharapova in straight sets today, leaving a clear road to the finals, unless Zvonareva can pull off a big upset, but  Caroline is playing too well and has a real shot to win her first major. On the other side lies the defending champ Kim Clijsters who has been playing just as well as Caroline, but she now has to play Stosur and if she wins her award is playing Venus. That tough draw will either prove that she is by far the best on this surface or wear her down and give Wozniacki the advantage. Either way I see a Clijsters Wozniacki rematch in the finals. Two of the nicest ladies on the tour, and would be a great rematch.

I like to speak for the fans sometimes, and I know I do when i say we want a Nadal vs Federer final, and I think I do with the Clijsters vs Wozniacki rematch. They are the dream scenarios and by the way all four of them are  playing, the most likely to happen, but this is the US Open where anything and everything can happen to change it all.

(Side Note) If you read my first article, then it looks like my predictions are pretty accurate so far, which is exciting for me. The players are making me look good so far and I appreciate that. Andy Murray coming up small in big matches is my favorite prediction that came true so far.
