The NFL season is finally upon us. The best time of the year in sports is here. For a couple of months there will be baseball playoffs, College football, and of course NFL football. This is what sports fans love.
The Chargers go into the 2010 season with big hopes of a great season having lots of recent success. The Chargers have been the team of the division for many years now, winning the AFC West for five out of the last six years. This season the Chargers have a little less fire power than last year, some would think. The Chargers are going into the season with no Vincent Jackson and no Marcus McNeil. This will hurt the passing game considerably but the Chargers still have their stud QB leading the offense. The running game should be a lot better with a young explosive rookie RB in Ryan Mathews.
The Chargers will be facing Kansas City on Monday night football in week one. It is always hard to play in Arrowhead and the Chiefs fans will be pumped up for Monday night football. So expect some false starts. The Chargers will be missing Shawne Merriman for this game. He has been injured the entire pre season and has not been practicing. The Chargers did add WR Patrick Crayton from the Cowboys a week ago for a seventh round draft pick. He is a solid reciever who will run good routes and has good hands. He does not have blazing speed and is not a big receiver but will be a solid third down option for Rivers to throw to. He will remind Chargers fans of one Eric Parker. The Chiefs look to be much improved this year. They added Thomas Jones and rookie scat back Dexter McCluster on offense. They also added Stud rookie safety Eric Berry to their defense. The Chiefs have a lot of weapons on offense in Jamal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, Chris Chambers, and the before mentioned Jones and McCluster. The Chargers will need to put pressure on QB Matt Cassel and not let him get comfortable and use these weapons on offense. The Chiefs defense is young and filled with players with lots of potential. The Chiefs have not seen the results they have wanted from these players like Glen Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, and Derrick Johnson. I don’t think that the smaller Chiefs defensive backs can stop Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates so look for those mismatches in the game. Also look for Ryan Mathews to keep the chains moving on the ground.
Weekly prediction- Chargers 24 Chiefs 17
Season prediction- Chargers 11-5
