Cowboys versus Redskins

The Cowboys head into Sunday night to face a tough new Redskins team with a lot of questions and intrigue on both sides. How will McNabb and Shanahan’s new offense work? Will the Cowboy’s line be stable?
The Redskins bring a solid quarterback to a team that’s been lacking one for years, but McNabb doesn’t have a solid stable of wide receivers once again like he did in Philadelphia for so long. Along with running back Clinton Portis, who’s has a lot of tread worn off the tires, the Skins offense is probably going to run a little sluggish on it’s first outing of the season. The Washington defense, on the other hand, will be solid as it was last year. Their defensive front seven and their secondary are experienced and outside of problems with Albert Haynesworth, are a pretty cohesive unit. Their lacking in the turnover department will probably hurt them unless they can get it turned around this season.
The Cowboys show some real struggles on the offensive side, particularly on the offensive line and they will not have Kyle Kosier or Marc Colombo for the game. Without the two of them the team has looked very bad and struggled offensively because of it and could be vulnerable. Defensively the Cowboys are solid, but showed some of the same issues in secondary that has plagued them over the past few season when they played against the Texans. Alan Ball showed some vulnerability against the pass and the run.
In the end it will be a tough game, but the Cowboys are a much better and all together more experienced team. Look for DeMarcus Ware to attack the rookie left tackle Trent Williams and disrupt the Washington pass attack and even with the incorporation of the zone blocking scheme Dallas excels at stopping the run. The Cowboys have a little more talent on the offensive side at wide receiver and will likely be able to make some plays. Washington will attack the weak side of the Dallas line, but the Cowboys will be able hold the Skins off just enough to pull off a win.
