First Place Padres

The Padres are still in first place, and I’m going to say it as much as I can.  While I still can.  The Padres have twenty games left on the schedule and just one day off the rest of the way out.  During the next twenty games the Padres have series with some tough teams, that are still playing for something.  With the likes of the Giants, Rockies, Cardinals, and Reds.  It is not going to be easy.  The Rockies are surging late like they always do and the Giants have three pitchers throwing very well.  Lincecum, Cain, and Bumgarner are all throwing very well for the Giants and it is tough to win a series against a team who has three very solid pitchers.  The road to the playoffs will be daunting one for the Padres.  The team is not playing very well as of late and they are going on the road to play some good ball clubs.  The good news is this will test the Padres and get them ready for the playoffs if they do make it in.  Also the good news is when trying to get into the playoffs playing the teams your battling against to get into the playoffs is good because every game you win puts you one game ahead of that team for either the wild card or division.  Rather then having to rely on other teams to beat those teams.  The series at the end of the season in San Francisco is looking more and more like a play in series for the playoffs, either the division or the wild card.

I went to the game on Sunday and sat in row twenty down the first base line.  Mat Latos had a rough start and did not seem to be on his game.  He just didn’t look comfortable out there.  Latos was due for a rough start he has been on the top of his game for 15 consecutive starts.  I would not be worried about Latos and I expect him to bounce back and have a great start his next time out in St. Louis.  The Padres really need to start scoring some runs against teams like Colorado, St. Louis, and Cincinnati or this season will not end the way we would all like it.  [1]
