Notre Dame vs Michigan Post Game

If there is one thing that you can be sure of, it’s that the Notre Dame post game articles following a loss will be short and sweet. Look, let’s get one thing straight, if Dayne Crist doesn’t miss the entire first half after leading the Irish to a 7-0 lead on the opening drive, we all know that this would have been a much different outcome. Notre Dame’s backup quarterbacks (who aren’t even worth mentioning), combined to throw two interceptions while leading the Irish to exactly 0 points the rest of the first half. Crist moved the ball at will against the Wolverine defense and there is no telling how many points the Irish would have put up had he played the entire game. That said, injuries are a part of the game and quarterback depth can not be overlooked in such a violent game. The bottom line is this, there is no time for excuses in college football because only one thing matters, wins and losses, and no one cares how you won, or how you lost. Right now, you are either 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2 and that is all we care about.
Denard Robinson was special on Saturday in South Bend, accounting for 502 total yards of offense, yet the Irish still managed to outgain the Wolverines 535-532 despite the injury to Crist, who threw for 277 yards in just barely over one half of football. Kyle Rudolph was the only other bright spot, catching 8 balls for 164 yards and a touchdown. Neither defense showed up with the exception of a couple of gift wrapped INT’s from the backup ND quarterbacks. The only way for the Irish to recover from this heartbreaker and save their season is to win 3 of their next 4 games vs Michigan St, Stanford, Boston College, and Pitt to get to 4-2 a the midway point. Anything less, and the Irish fans will already be talking about next year. A year that will likely not include Michael Floyd or Kyle Rudolph, two juniors expected to turn pro. Next week’s matchup in East Lansing will be huge because not only do the Spartans own the Irish over the last decade, the difference between a 2-1 football team and a 1-2 football team is like night and day.
