Seattle Seahawks 31 – San Francisco 49ers 6

Wow! First off, I’d like to congratulate Head Coach Pete Carroll on his victory Sunday. Honestly, I doubted that he would be successful, especially so soon. It is just one game, however, did anyone truly predict such a dominating effort by Seattle?
Many will say that the 49ers gave the game away, especially with the play of Quarterback Alex Smith. San Fran got off to an early 6 to 0 lead and it seemed as if the Seahawks would struggle as predicted. Then Matt Hasselbeck played like the Hasselbeck of a few years ago.
San Francisco controlled the clock ran more plays and had more yards of total offense. However, the X-Factor as always was Alex Smith. His two interceptions, one of which that was returned by Marcus Trufant for a touchdown, was vintage Smith. The Seahawks did an exceptional job holding the Niners rushing attack to a paltry 49 yards on 19 carries. Many believed that if Seattle was going to be effective, they had to contain Frank Gore and company.
Offensively, Hasselbeck did a great job spreading the ball around completing passes to eight different receivers. Mike Williams seemed to be the quarterback’s best friend as he was the target of the majority of Hasselbeck’s throws. We may see the development of the Mike Williams many predicted when he entered the draft as a first round pick of the Detroit Lions. The rushing game was balanced and was led by Justin Forsett and his 43 yards.
Seattle sits in a tie for first place with the Arizona Cardinals…who would have predicted that! Seahawks fans have a tough, never give up squad that definitely has the ability to make a run in the weak NFC West. For those that doubted Pete Carroll and whether his rah-rah style would work in the pros, this win is a step in the right direction. The Seahawks look to improve to 2-0 next week when they travel to Denver’s Invesco Field to take on the Broncos.
