0-for a Career

Ron English has yet to get his first win as head coach atEastern Michigan, he is 0-14, but he is getting closer. They have lost their two games this year, Army and Miami Ohio by a combined 11 points. Compare that to last year when EMU lost in Mt Pleasant to CMU 56-8, so there is improvement. This game worries me on Saturday for one reason. Eastern cares about the game way more then Central does. I explain it to people like this, CMU’s biggest rival is Western, just Like Michigan’s biggest rival is Ohio Sate, Eastern’s biggest rival is Central, just like Michigan State’s biggest rival is Central. Late in last years game, even when they were down 50 plus points, Eastern was calling timeouts, doing anything they could to try to score more on CMU’s defense. When Central got the ball in the second half they would run up the middle a few times and then put, and late in the game even take knees.
Eastern has played Central very tough the last few years and before last year they actually won 3 out of the last 4, which is terrible. Hopefully the players for the Chippewa’s will be ready for this game, because I know Eastern’s players will, it’s their super bowl. The game is also at Eastern which makes it a little more cause for concern. In the past they do not draw well at all, but maybe they are starting to get more fans. We will all find out Saturday at 4pm.
Another problem for CMU is their ALL conference LB and tackle leader Nick Bellore hurt his ankle early in the Temple game last week and didn’t return. He did not practice Monday or Tuesday but was going to try to practice light on Wednesday. I will be honest, it doesn’t matter if he practices at all, I would be shocked if he doesn’t play. He is the senior leader for the Chippewa’s and he knows that this team can not start the MAC season 0-2. One good thing about playing the Temple game last Thursday is the extra days of rest that Bellore, and the rest of the Chippewa’s get before this Eastern game.
This is the first MAC West game for Head Coach Dan Enos so the Chippewa faithful can only hope he will have this team ready to go. I have to believe coming off a loss he will. I know Eastern will be jacked up for this game, but CMU has the better team and will show it on Saturday. I look for Eastern to hang in for a little while, but by the 3 quarter this game will be over. CMU wins 35-14.
