Oregon will be back at Autzen Stadium this weekend hosting fellow in state competitor Portland State Vikings. The Ducks are coming off a big win on the road against the SEC’s Tennessee Volunteers where they won 48-13. This shouldn’t be much of a test for the Ducks, i would consider it more of a brush up game.
Originally Oregon wasn’t scheduled to host the Vikings, Central Michigan was on the schedule but ended up backing out and Portland State was one of the only teams that could fill in their spot.
Oregon’s offense has been one of the best in the country so far this season and i don’t see that changing this weekend. The Ducks are ranked 2nd overall in Points Scored so far this young season with an average of 60 points a game. Oregon is also averaging a whopping 583.6 yards per game.
Portland State is coming in after winning their week 2 match-up against UC Davis where they won 41-33 to give first year head coach Nigel Burton his first win as a Viking. PSU is still in a rebuilding state as a football program and i don’t think they will have what it takes to compete in this weeks match-up against the #5 ranked Ducks. The only thing they can hope to do is contain the high powered offense led by Darron Thomas and Lamichael James. Thomas will be reunited with old high school teammates CB Michael Williams and WR Keitrell Anderson who both play for Portland State, all 3 played at Aldine High School in Houston, Texas.
Although i don’t think this game will be close i still think there are a few keys to the game for the Ducks to concentrate on.
1. Don’t overlook the Vikings. They are young and aren’t a very big named team but those can be the teams that sneak up on you occasionally
2. Concentrate on the Basics. Blocking, Running the ball, Passing Efficiency, etc
3. WTD ” Win the Day” the Ducks motto for every game and is pasted along the side of the field at Autzen.
Prediction: Oregon wins and wins big 56-7
