Birds Do Battle at Home

The Falcons look to right the ship in a battle of the birds. At the Georgia Dome the Falcons welcome the Cardinals. I hope it won’t be a warm welcome. Both offenses looked pitiful and have a lot to improve on. As I stated in my last blog the Falcons just need to open the offense up. Taking a lot more chances down field should open some holes at the line and allow turner to run wild. Of course, blocking, catching and some smart decisions by Matt Ryan will lead to an even record. The Falcons should also get Weems, Douglas and Finneran more involved in the passing game to take the heat off of Roddy White. They also need to get Norwood involved. The Falcons have so many weapons that really didn’t get utilized in the offense last week. Change it up and really give the Cardinals fits. The Falcons need to get it in the Endzone – I know that is an obvious statement but only getting nine points last week, a points performance like that this week and you might have well have the defense play both sides of the ball.  I really cannot bag on the Falcons defense all that much. They should have a field day with the Arizona offense. Although they did get 3 sacks last week they will need to turn up the pressure on Derek Anderson and that should lead to more turnovers. And as we all know that more turnovers can lead to more points. Remember Defense wins championships.

Having said all that the Falcons should win this game. They are favored by 6.5 and play very well at home. Home sweet Dome. Must be that home cooking.

Lastly, I hope that Mike Smith and Mike Mularkey have taken a good look at their own coaching abilities from the last game. I hate to rehash things but this says volumes. With 39 seconds left, they sat on the ball and hoped to sneak a win in overtime, instead of giving your star of the future quarterback the chance to put a notch on his probowl resume. Manning, Brady and Favre would all have been given the opportunity to go out and win it. I hope that move by Smith won’t melt Matty Ice’s confidence.

Go Falcons!
