TSN has confirmed that free agent Canadian RB Jesse Lumsden has turned down an offer from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and is in talks with the Calgary Stampeders about a spot on the teams practice roster.
While I can understand Calgary looking to add Canadian depth (you can never have enough) I’m not sure if I understand why Lumsden? When healthy Jesse has shown he is one of the best running backs this country has ever produced. However Jesse has rarely been healthy and it has scared off most of the CFL. Not to mention that with Joffrey Reynolds, and Jon Cornish Calgary has the best 1-2 tandem at RB in the CFL. The only reason I can see is this is a depth move just in case one of those two get hurt.
Tonight the Stamps roll into Regina to take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders. If Calgary wins it will pretty much sew up the West division title for the Stampeders and the first round bye, as well as the right to host the West Final. A win would put Calgary four games ahead with seven to play, which is almost insurmountable.
Expect this one to be a tight one tonight with the Riders coming off an embarrassing loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Also expect Mosaic Stadium to be rocking as it usually is whenever Henry Burris comes back to town. The Watermelon Heads should be out in full force booing ‘Smiling Hank’ yet again.
Have a good one!
