This week Nebraska travels to Washington for what will be the Huskers first road game and an actual opponent with some skill. Is Nebraska Ranked to high at #8. I am hoping not, but we need to see a little more out of the team than we have in the past 2 games. Last week against Idaho, if you take back the defensive touchdowns, it is a 24-17 game. That kind of play will not work against Washington this week, so hopefully, with 2 games under their belt; the Huskers can calm down and play some football.
Washington is trying to continue progress in their season, with a first game loss to BYU and a huge win last week against Syracuse. The Nebraska game is the start of a brutal stretch for Washington. Six of the Huskies’ next seven games are against teams currently ranked in the AP Poll. The Huskies are counting on Quarterback Jake Locker (possible Heisman candidate this year) to lead the team against the Huskers. Locker will not make as many mistakes as W Kentucky or Idaho, but hopefully the Blackshirts can get in there and rattle his cage a little bit to disrupt his game plan. Locker is good in the pocket and can dazzle a bit on his feet, so the Blackshirts can expect this will be their first real challenge.
The Husker offense is smoothing out a bit, found some frustration with Martinez last week, but all-in-all I feel they are on a good streak. I am hoping to see some better ball handling from Martinez, 4 fumbles last week and only losing 1, that’s not going to work. Niles Paul needs to make the easy catches too. Burkhead and Helu seem to get better every day, that Burkhead is a talent. Living in the Dallas area, most locals know who Burkhead is, and I am glad he is on the Huskers team!
Let’s hope Crick and Steinkuhler are able to make statements this week and lead the Blackshirts against the Huskies. They need to make a statement, get a good pass rush and put Locker on the ground. The Locker may make some mistakes if pressured and the Blackshirt Defense will be ready to take advantage when he does.
