Chicago Bears Stun Dallas Cowboys with 27-20 Win

With Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler’s three touchdown passes today, the Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys 27-20 at Cowboy Stadium.

I’m wondering who was more surprised by the win: Bears Nation or Dallas?

The Bears are now 2-0 and the Cowboys, well, they’re 0-2. This is the first time since 2006 since the Bears have been 2-0 and nine years since it’s been a 0-2 start for Dallas.

Is it time to panic in Dallas or maybe we already know that answer with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones marching along the sidelines at the end of today’s game. When was the last time you saw an owner do that?

After a rough start by the Bears and yet another hissy fit by Cutler with his team’s blocking, the team soon got a field goal in the first quarter. Dallas came back with a 62-yard punt return which had the team take the lead. By the end of the quarter with a touchdown by Bears tight end Greg Olson, the Bears were back up 10-7.

Dallas erased the deficit with a touchdown from Romo to Chris Gronowski (his first NFL touchdown) in the second quarter but their lead did not last too long. The Bears returned with a touchdown by underachieving wide receiver Devin Hester. And so began a lead the Bears did not give up for the remainder of the game.

With an additional field goal at the end of the second quarter, the Bears walked into the locker room at the half up 20-14.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Romo tried to take the lead back by getting the ball to the 10-yard line but had to settle with a field goal. The Bears came roaring back in the fourth quarter with Cutler’s third touchdown. He threw to running back Matt Forte, who is definitely back in good football form after a disappointing sophomore season. Forte had 10 attempts for 29 yards  on the day.

Dallas scored one last time in the fourth quarter with a field goal. Final score: 27-20.

Tony Romo went 34 for 51 and had 374 yards.

In a CBS.com story [1], Bears coach Lovie Smith commented about today’s win, “It was a signature game. We just made plays throughout… We’ve been saying what we are, which is a good football team, but you have to get wins to validate that.”

Cutler was 21 for 29 for 277 yards and three touchdowns in today’s win. He had one sack and lost his left tackle, Chris Williams, in the first quarter with a hamstring injury.

Next up for the Chicago Bears? A Monday night game against the Green Bay Packers next Monday, September 27. This will decide who will take command of the NFC North.

And that other contender for the NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings? They lost to the Miami Dolphins, 14-10 today. Vikings quarterback Brett Favre had three interceptions for the game.

Do I dare say the Bears may be back?
