Finally the Falcons of 2010 have arrived. I know it is only week two but this is how I expected the Falcons to play in week one. Matty “Ice” was 21 of 32 for 225 and 3 TD’s. A rushing attack that had 221 yards. A Defense that had 3 interceptions and 2 sacks – a solid day and a great win. Only thing that was bad on this day was a 98 yard TD kickoff return that was nullified by a holding penalty and the 80 yard scamper from Hightower – that play gets busted behind the line and the Falcons D has a shutout. Good play calling and good execution equals a Falcons win. Snelling picked up the slack for an injured Michael Turner who was 9 for 75 when getting his groin injured. Snelling had 129 yards rushing and 2 TD’s as well as 57 yards and 1 TD receiving. I should pick him up off the fantasy wire to spell Michael Turner, but I will wait to see what the verdict is on Turner. Proud of the team, proud of the fans(the Dome was rocking) and proud of the coaches too. Mike Smith had this team read to play. 41-7 rout was just what this team needed heading into next week. If they could just get more of a pass rush and produce more sacks, there might be more turnovers created. Matt Ryan had a solid game throwing to 6 different receivers and 3 TD’s (White, Finernan & Snelling). But on this day Snellling was the man. When Norwood went off the field on a cart and Turner was dinged up – it was Snelling who carried the load and the rest is a W in the books. Even the kicking game was on point today – Bryant was 2-2 in field goals and 5-5 on extra points and Koenen only had 2 punts but averaged 34 yards – not to shabby for either.
This was a one sided affair that went the Falcons way. Falcons win, I never get tired of saying it. I hope I say it a lot more this season.
