Get on your feet Miami fans because your team has won two games in a row for the first time in three years. And what if I told you they looked good doing it? Surprised yet? Well many fans were on Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium, as they watched the RedHawks erase an early 3-0 deficit by scoring 31 unanswered points against Colorado State. The 31-10 win over the visiting Rams was a big win for Miami, which gave them a winning record (2-1) for the first time since the 2007 campaign.

On a day when Miami honored the late football coach Randy Walker at halftime, the RedHawks impressed on both sides of the football. Sophomore quarterback Zac Dysert had his best effort of the season, going 18-22 for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Dysert’s number one target, junior wide receiver Armand Robinson had another big game for the RedHawks, catching four passes for 83 yards with a touchdown. Robinson now has 22 receptions for 283 yards with two touchdowns on the season.

The turning point in the game occurred late in the second quarter, with Miami leading 10-3, when sophomore line backer Evan Harris intercepted Colorado State quarterback Pete Thomas. Harris picked the ball off on a deflection and ran it back 56 yards to break open a close game and give Miami a 17-3 lead at the half.

The Miami defense continued to impress during the game, allowing only 10 Colorado State points on 306 yards of total offense. The RedHawks sacked Ram quarterback Pete Thomas four times for 22 yards, and forced two Thomas interceptions, including Harris’ one that was returned for a touchdown. The only bright spot for Colorado State came in the form of wide out Byron Steele, who caught seven passes for 118 yards.

Miami’s schedule gets no easier next week when they travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the pass-happy Tigers. While it will be tough to win, Miami football has showed us that they are a different team this year. After a convincing 31-10 victory over a team from the Mountain West, Miami fans are starting to believe that this is the year the RedHawks can turn it around.
