Tennessee drops two in a row, 31-17 Gators

Well, it’s important to remember the positive things.
While most college kickers can’t even make a 25-yard field goal, Daniel Lincoln made one at 49 yards to put the Vols in the lead early. Of course, that was followed by four florida touchdowns and some disastrous plays by the defense; but remember how great that field goal was?
Tennessee is falling into a bleak pattern of showing up for the first half of the game and then leaving their drive inside the locker room for the start of the 3rd quarter. Florida scored 2 touchdowns and a field goal in just 15 minutes and converted on 8 of 14 third downs. Just a few weeks ago, Justin Wilcox was boasting about what he said was going to be one of the best defensive lines in the SEC. Perhaps me and Wilcox have a difference of opinion when it comes to the word “best”. Sure the defense is what kept the Vols in the game during the first half, but being the best would require being able to continue that effort in the final 30 minutes.
The fake punt by Omarius Hines gave Florida all the momentum they needed to finish off the Vols. After a touchdown by Frank Hammond Jr that put the Gators up 17-10 with only 4:30 left in the third quarter, the nail on the Tennessee coffin was already shut.
Tauren Poole was disappointing after last weeks incredible performance with only 23-yards the entire game. The Gators run defense is one of the best in the league. The Vols offensive line was no match for the five down linemen in blue.
Matt Simms looked great despite having very little support. He was able to get two TDs and 259 yards even though his offensive line was missing for the six sacks. Sure, there were the two interceptions (including one during a 3rd and goal), but after completing 19 of 31 attempts there is definite hope for the future. Plus Simms said during a post game interview, “We’re going to win a lot of games this year” so there’s that. It could be worse, they could be 0-3 instead of 1-2. Always looking to the positive.
