Week 2 is almost wrapped up and the injury bug has struck another top drafted player. This week it’s Ryan Mathews. Owners can take a sigh of relief though. After watching Mathews’s ankle get caught on a run and watching him helped off the field, he was able to run back on to the sidelines in pads. He didn’t come back in, but the fact that he was able to run out there is good sign that his injury may not be too severe.
Also the Buffalo Bills handed the ball to Marshawn Lynch an awful lot this week. you can’t help but feel like they have him on display for the Packers. Keep an eye on Lynch over the next couple of weeks.
That being said here are some waiver picks to look at.
Mike Nugent – He had 5 field goals this week and has good offense that can drive the field. He should be on waivers in most leagues. If you don’t have an established kicker give him a look.
Mike Tolbert – I mentioned above that Ryan Mathews ran out onto the field as a good sign and though it is picking up Mike Tolbert might be a good idea just in case they decide to hold their prized rookie out in San Diego. If you have Mathews or need a filler you might look to Tolbert to fill in.
Demarius Thomas – Thomas has been fighting a foot injury for a big part of the off season, but made a big splash in his debut going for 8 receptions, 98 yards, and a touchdown. He looks like he will edge out Jabar Gaffney for a starting position. He’s still a rookie though and still has to prove he can go against better defenses in crunch time, so look to get him a spot on your bench as a bye week player with some upside.
Kevin Walter – Walter had all but been edged out by Jacobey Jones, but after having 11 receptions, 144 yards, and a touchdown against Washington look for him to keep getting looks as Matt Schaub spreads it around. Jones has had some bad drops and Schuab may be a little more comfortable getting the ball to Walter. If Andre Johnson’s ankle becomes a problem Walter’s stock will sky rocket.
