38-13 nough said

I watched the Chargers game on the Internet and the NFL network red-zone. It wasn’t too bad. I saw a good amount of the game. So the Chargers defense stepped up big time and showed bolts fans much improvement from what we saw early last year. The Chargers dominated every aspect of the game on Sunday and the 38-13 score doesn’t even show how bad it could have been. The Chargers defense caused six turnovers and if it wasn’t for a couple of mistakes early and three Chargers turnovers of their own, the score could have been a lot worse. With being sacked three times and throwing four interceptions the Jaguars QB Garrard was under constant pressure. Everyone was getting in on the funwith Phillips, Merriman, English, and Cesaire all getting in on sacks or big time pressure. Steve Gregory had a big game with 8 tackles and was all over the field. Also young corner Antoine Cason had a big game with 6 tackles 2 INTs and a forced fumble. The two INTs is nice but would not have happened if it wasn’t for the pressure put on Garrard and the tipped ball by Phillips.
It wasn’t all defense out there though, the Chargers offense moved up and down the field at will. Rivers was on point once again throwing for 334 yards and 3 TDs. With a QB rating of 119. Rivers is doing exactly what I was hoping he would do without Vincent Jackson. At times last year I think Rivers would force the ball down field to Jackson when there wasn’t anything there. So far, in two games this year Rivers is throwing to whoever is open, spreading the ball around to multiple receivers with Crayton, Davis, and Sproles getting in on more action this week. It reminds me of when Tom Brady was at his best on the Patriots and every game there would be 7 or 8 different receivers with catches. This is all made possible with a good running game and Antonio Gates demanding so much attention.
Speaking of the running game Ryan Mathews left the game early with an ankle injury. Wewill be looking for an update on the injury to see how serious it is, nothing has come out yet. Mike Tolbert did come into the game, and he ran for 82 yards and 2 TDs. Tolbert is more then capable to be the RB for this team, and still win a lot of games but lets hope Mathews is not out for too long. Mathews is still the explosive, strong runner that we need on offense to keep the chains moving and the play action pass effective. I like Tolbert a whole lot late in games as a closer to run defenses over and keep a lead. Not sure how good he can be as an every down back. With Sproles there to join him in the backfield I’m sure the bolts will be just fine till Mathews can come back.
Side note- L.T. had 102 total yards for the Jets on Sunday against the Patriots. Lets wait and see what he does after he gets dinged up at one point in the season. He did look quicker then he did last year and actually broke a tackle.
