Yankees-Rays Round 2 starts Monday night in the Bronx. The Bombers have a minuscule .5 game lead on Tampa Bay after New York’s bullpen faltered in Baltimore in an attempt to sweep the series on Sunday.
This four-game set actually is the biggest series of the season. The Yankees need to win this to secure home-field advantage in the ALDS. With a rotation that’s no longer considered “deep” a five-game set for the Yankees could spell disaster in the opening round of the post-season.
Ivan Nova kicks things off against Matt Garza in the opener. Nova has shown he can pitch under pressure and nothing would earn him a spot on the post-season roster like a quality start.
The Yankees are running out of time to distance themselves from the Rays and the next four days are a prime opportunity. Once Tampa Bay leaves things are out New York’s control, but while they are in the Bronx, the Bombers can control their own destiny.

Yankees up 8-5 in the 7th Steph…..if I only had a better cable package I could surf between MNF and the Yankee’s game. Good luck in the post-season……

Thanks for the comment, Glenn. The Yankees did pull it out last night. Three more BIG games await them. If they screw this up I think Steinbrenner might drop his monstrous monument on them!
