The Blue Jackets signed goalie Steve Mason to a two year contract extension. I like the fact that they did not extend his contract long term. It is not that I don’t think Mason is the real deal, however, I do think he needs to prove he can perform consistently before throwing big money at him for an extended amount of time. There is no doubt in my mind that Mason will prove to Blue Jackets fans that he is their goalie for the future.
On a side note, there are rumours floating around that the Blue Jackets are interested in the Edmonton Oilers disgruntled defensman Sheldon Souray. Based on the Oilers and Blue Jackets history of trading with each other, this could be a very good possibility. The Blue Jackets would need to get rid of a defensman in order to make this work and it is defensman Mike Commodore who would be the most likely candidate. Stay tuned…
The Blue Jackets will be playing their first preseason game tomorrow night against the Atlanta Thrashers. It will be interesting to see the line combinations and defense pairings that will be used to start the preseason. Look for my post-game report tomorrow night.
Let the preseason begin!
