Nets Frontrunners To Land ‘Melo

Apparently, the New Jersey Nets are in the lead spot to land an unhappy Carmelo Anthony. They would have to offer Derrick Favors along with a future first round pick, and some expiring contracts like Troy Murphy and Kris Humphries. While it is too early to get excited, it’s not to early to examine what this trade could mean.

It isn’t often that a team gets a chance to trade for a superstar in his prime, but when it comes along, you have to take it. This trade alters the Eastern Conference again, and makes it that much more interesting.  The Nets would go from basement dwellers to contenders. A Melo-Devin Harris- Brook Lopez combo would be the best core the Nets have had since Kidd-Richardson-Martin trio which led them to a NBA Finals appearance.

In what seemed like a cruel twist of fate, the Nets had by far the worst record in basketball yet only ended up with the 3rd pick in the draft. At the time, it was just another bad situation the Nets fans and organization had to endure. However, now it seems to be a blessing in disguise. Would the Nets be willing to trade Wall or Turner if they had the 1st or 2nd pick? Probably not, because they are real good now, and have great upside. Favors on the other hand, is raw yet talented enough to have both teams intrigued enough to work out a deal.

I am usually down on the Nets organization because of how poor they’ve been these past years, but this could really be a game changer. It could be the new mindset that Prokhorov has brought along or my old pal Billy King has learned how to be a good GM after all these years. Either way, this shows that the Nets are moving in the right direction. They need to complete this trade to bring Melo to NJ. Not only would it make the team a contender, it would put butt’s back into the seats, and make basketball exciting again in Jersey.

The Nets front office needs to make this trade happen, for the future of the organizations sake.
