“It’s a Sad Day, a Sad Day” – Death of Kenny McKinley

As the tragic death of Kenny McKinley rocks the Denver Broncos, coach Josh McDaniels is set to meet with the press around noon MDT today.
McKinley is remembered not only for his talent, but for his smile. After learning about the death McKinley’s South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said “He’s one of my all-time favorites — everything about him, he had a wonderful smile. It’s a sad day, a sad day.”
It is a very sad day, and a very shocking day. The death of such a young and promising player who as McDaniels noted “was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room” is tragic.
From everything, it appears McKinley was upbeat, friendly, encouraging, and he clearly had a huge impact on his college team. It’s always hard to understand why someone would take their own life, especially when it comes to someone who from all accounts was happy.
According to a Fox 31 News report McKinley was going through financial problems and depression due to being on injury reserves. With the shock and confusion around his death there are more questions than answers – and some of the answers may never come.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as this tragic lose rocks the football community.
