Redskins Texans Post Blog and Pics

Sorry for the lateness of this blog but had to drive back to Canada. It took a while to get over this loss. From the long walk out of the stadium, to all the opinions and interviews from the Redskins Nation channel, to friends and family’s comments, to now just focusing not on the fact that the Redskins had a substantial lead and lost, but the fact that the win for the Texans was not an easy one (and the fact that Dallas now has to play them next week in Houston).
Tailgating at FedEx Field is an experience that cannot be explained. This year was even better because everyone either had the Dallas game on their radios or on small flat screens. When we walking to get our seats, we saw the Chicago TD that gave them their win over the Dallas Cowboys and everyone was screaming and hugging. Redskins’ fans get so much out of one team’s failures. Loved it!
So back to the actual game. By half time, the Redskins were up 20-7 and starting the 4th quarter they were up 27-17, however, the Redskins could not run the ball and the defense could not defend against the passing game (they did however do a great job at defending the running game which got the Texans’ their first win of the season). The Redskins won the toss in overtime and attempted a 52 yard field goal, which was good; however, a time out was called by the Texans. This rattled Gano and he missed his next attempt. The Texans won by a 35 yard field goal and the entire stadium was quiet. Everyone was in shock and disbelief as they won this game, but gave it away.
So what do the Redskins have to do now?
Running game is key. When you team is ahead in points, they need to run more of the clock. The Redskins’ time of possession was 31:47 to the Texans’ 39:49. The Redskins have already started dealing with this issue by cutting RB Larry Johnson. Look for a trade soon.
Pass Defense. Now ranked #31 in the NFL, they allowed 497 yards. DeAngelo Hall has stepped up and requested that he defend key WRs and Shanahan and Haslett are okay with that. As you can recall from the game, the Texans scored their TD to tie the game on 4th and 10 with a very poorly defended WR in the end zone.
Here are some more pics from the game, which were taken by my brother Colin Green.
