The Chargers are right in the middle of the soft spotin their schedule. The Seahawks had and upset win against the 49ers in week one and then got spanked by the Broncos in week two in Denver. The Seahawks are a much better team at home and proved this by handling a very good niners team at home. The Chargers will have to go up to Seattle to take on the Seahawks which will prevent this game from being a walk over affair for the bolts. The Chargers do not have a very hard schedule to start the season which make these games that much more important to win, since the rest of the season only gets tougher.
The Seahawks are a team that does not scare me one bit on offense. The running game is nothing special with three middle of the road RBs in Forsett, Jones, and Washington. The passing game is also not much of a threat with Deion Branch, ex USC receiver Mike Williams, and a pretty good young tight end John Carlson. The Seahawks did put up 31 points against the niners week one but most of that was off of mistakes on offense by the niners resulting in points off defense and good field position. QB Matt Hasselback was much more efficient at home then on the road so far and has 3 TDs and 4 INTs on the season. The Hawks defense is suspect. Coach Pete Carrol will want to rely on his defense to keep it close and get the running game going to keep the ball out of Rivers hands. The Chargers should be able to exploit the Seahawks secondary with an almost 37 year old Lawyer Milloy at safety with rookie Earl Thomas as the other safety.
The Chargers will be looking to RB Mike Tolbert to carry the load at RB with RB Ryan Mathews looking doubtful to play week 3. Hopefully the Chargers can get the running game going early to take the pressure off the passing game in the ultra loud stadium, and also set up the play action for Rivers later. The Chargers have shown that the defense is improved this year and with a Seahawks offense that is not very explosive the Chargers should be able to win this game without having to put up a lot of points. I would like to see the Chargers win a low scoring, grind it out game and stick to the run to win.
