With the Bronco running game currently in a state of disarray, it seems logical that Denver QB Kyle Orton might turn to WR Eddie Royal for some extra offense when the Colts travel to Invesco Field for a 4:15pm game on Sunday.
Knowshon Moreno is not suiting up for Sunday’s game and considering he is the number one running back on a team ranked 27th in rushing offense, the Broncos will need to explore all their options. Correll Buckhalter will likely start but his numbers are not any more impressive than Moreno’s. Laurence Maroney and Andre Brown will probably share some reps too but I’m thinking the Colts will be ready to step up against whoever lines up in the backfield.
This is why Broncos’ receivers Royal and rookie Demaryius Thomas might see a little bit more in the air. The offense has got to come from somewhere and an air attack seems like the best bet for Denver.
The Broncos are also having injury issues on defense too. Veteran CB Champ Bailey is out for the game and CB Andre Goodman is questionable so Manning might be looking at a couple of rookie defensive backs in Cassius Vaughn and Perrish Cox. . .a situation that would surely have Colts’ receivers salivating.
RB Joseph Addai is questionable and I’m not sure the Colts run the risk of running him hard anyway. If Manning can pick apart the Bronco secondary and the defensive line does as well against Denver as they did against the Giants, Addai would probably be used sparingly anyway. The Colts should be looking for quality yards from Addai against the Broncos and not quantity.
Defensively, I would expect that the Colts will have a fair amount of success against Orton. Orton has thrown for over 600 yds thus far this season with 3 TDs but you gotta believe Freeney, Mathis and Co. will put up a little bit more pressure than what the Broncos saw against the Jags and the Seahawks.
I’m going out on a pretty strong limb here. . .Colts should roll in Denver. . .looking at a final score like 31-17.
