Wade Waived, Good Reddenance

We knew it was coming, but today it’s official.

Defenseman Wade Redden was placed on waivers.

The price just wasn’t right. His $6.5 million annual salary seemed the easy target and most logical choice  to be cut if the Rangers had any chance of slipping under the salary cap by opening night.

If he clears waivers, he’ll have to report to the Hartford Wolfpack.

The 33-year-old and two time All Star with the Ottawa Senators just couldn’t shine in Broadway. He never materialized into the offensive quarterback the powerplay desperately needed. Nor could he live up to the six year $39 million contract bestowed on him in 2008.

He scored a mere 14 points last season in New York with only two goals.

It’s a sad ending, but a new beginning for rookies with eyes set on the NHL.

Expect Ryan McDonagh to be movin’ on up and Matt Gilroy to wake up.
