The drought is finally over for Iowa State, after a two game skid the Cyclones are finally put one back in the win column. The Clones pitch a shut out against in state rival Northern Iowa. Defense may a big impact on the win for Iowa State with two interceptions, one by Jeremy Reeves who returned an interception for a 94 yard touchdown and the other pick made by A.J. Klein, who also returned his pick for a TD. Defense made sure there presence was known, overall they had 3 interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Special teams also had a turn in spoiling the fun for UNI by block a field goal.It was the first time the Cyclones returned two interceptions for touchdowns in a game since they did it against Northern Illinois in 2004.
The Cyclone offense look pretty good too, even without their starting quarterback Austen Arnaud, who injured his non-throwing shoulder in a 27-20 loss to Kansas State a week ago, left after three plays and did not return. So back up Jerome Tiller, who played a turnover-free game, because he didn’t have much pressure on his shoulders, thanks to the stellar defense.
This game was a confidence booster and is was what the doctor order for the Cyclones. I think its fair to say that this years team thus far in not a road team at all. It seems in order for them to win a game they need to be at home., and if this trend keeps going then Iowa State might get lucky and have a decent season.
