Points left on the field

When playing a good team you need to take advantage of ever chance you get, and you can not leave points on the field. CMU lost a tough game to Northwestern on Saturday 30-25 where they missed two PATs and a FG. They also had two interceptions and lost a fumble. For their part Northwestern didn’t look too sharp early either, having 5 flags thrown on them early in the first quarter and turnovers themselves, making it 13-13 at halftime. The 3rd quarter however, belonged to the Wildcats as they pushed they lead to 30-13. CMU did show a lot of heart in coming back and making it close, and even had a onside kick with just over a minute left that if they recovered it, it would have giving them a chance to win, but it was not to be.
Cody Wilson had a good game, until he had to leave with a injury to the ankle that has been brothering him all year. Hopefully he will be able to play at a high level next week for the conference home opener against Ball State.
Dan Persa the Wildcats QB did a very nice job leading his team, he just plays very smart and puts his team in a great chance to win. I really think Northwestern will win 8 or 9 games this year.
CMU now sits at 2-2 on the season, 1-1 in conference and do return home after a three game road trip. This team has shown some good things, but have lost two close games to two teams that have executed better when the game was on the line. CMU has a lot of new players in new spots, and they need to learn how to win together. The Chippewa’s have won three out of the last four MAC conference titles and been to four bowl games in a row, but this years team does not seem to have that winning edge to them yet. They will win games, because they have more talent then some of the teams they play in conference, but until they take that next step they will struggle.
I am looking to see how they respond next week, after their first lose of the year the next week they came back and won 52-14, be it against Eastern Michigan, lets see what they have in store for Ball State. Toledo did beat Purdue on Saturday, showing they may be the team to beat in the MAC West.
