Bring on the Cubbie’s

There was some really exciting and close baseball played at Petco Park over the weekend. The Padres won the first two games of the three game series against the Reds, the third game did not go so well. Miguel Tejada keeps coming up large and had one of the biggest hits on the season with a two run single in the seventh inning of game one, to lead the Padres to a 4-3 win. In another game that came down to the wire Chris Denorfia had a walk off double that he ripped down the line past Scott Rolen, itwas hit off of star phenom Aroldis Chapman in the 9th, who throws like 1,000 mile per hour. Yes 1,000 miles per hour. I wouldn’t say that the Padres offense has been hot, but a few players have been very hot and it is helping the Padres score just enough runs to win some of these games down the stretch. Miguel Tejada has been hitting the ball well and driving in a lot of runs. Hopefully his recent groin injury will not effect his much needed bat in the Padres line-up. Also Will Venable has been swinging a very hot stick. Over the last nine games Venable has gone 18 for 34 (.529 AVG) with nine runs scored. Venable has been the spark plug atop the Padres line-up, something Buddy Black has been searching for all year long.
There is now seven games left in the baseball season. The Padres have four against the Cubs and three against the first place Giants. I say bring on the Cubbie’s. The Padres should take advantage of a poor team and win this four games series. Maybe even sweep the Cubs. The Padres lead the wild card by a half a game over the Braves and trail the Giants by a half game in the West. The Giants and Braves only have six games left and the Padres will make that half game up today when they play the Cubs and the Giants are off. It could be a huge swing to either be tied for first or be a full game out after tonight’s game. Tonight the Pads have Stauffer going up against Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs. Zambrano has been rolling. He has not given up more then two runs in nine straight starts. Tonight that streak can come to an end.
